American History

American History is something we have to learn from. It cannot be erased. Remnants from the past still exist, objects.  They are objects though that do not have their own thoughts, they do not have voices. It does not have a heart, a soul, a brain, or a hand to harm you with. It is…

American History is something we have to learn from. It cannot be erased. Remnants from the past still exist, objects.  They are objects though that do not have their own thoughts, they do not have voices. It does not have a heart, a soul, a brain, or a hand to harm you with. It is an object. It cannot talk, it cannot yell insults, it cannot degrade you.

However, your thoughts about said object can harm you. YOUR thoughts.

Change your view, take a step back. It’s all perspective.

An object is an object.

Don’t give it a voice, don’t give it power.

Don’t allow it to divide, don’t allow it to ignite war.

However, individuals are giving them voices, but as a person we can decide how we interpret them, we decide what they say.

Statues and cemeteries are being destroyed in the South. History is being taken down because people are stuck in the past. Instead of moving forward as a nation, as we should be, we are moving backwards. We are dwelling on past events that we weren’t even alive to witness. We are creating a mess that we do not know how to clean, society is creating a mess that our great grandchildren will still be dealing with in the future (if there is still an American society then). These artifacts are not symbols of hate or Confederate Pride. They are examples of where we came from and where the nation should never go again, but sadly we are heading that way. We are moving towards separation.

As an American I am proud of my military. I have a deep respect for our veterans, the veterans of every war. I have respect for anyone that is willing to die for what they believe in. But this week I cannot say I’m proud of the rest of the nation, the people involved in society, in politics. Their actions are pitiful, I don’t care what side you’re on. If you’re even on a side you’re acting like a child.

I have heard that there is only “one side”…but it came from the mouth of an individual that was so obviously dedicated to “one side” it was disgusting.

There should only be one side.

The side that wants to move forward, the side that wants the nation to come back together and learn from it’s mistakes instead of ignoring them completely.

A nation is only as great as its people…

Very well said, I can tell you as someone who spent a lot of time fighting against unjust causes in my lifetime, I have never seen or experienced anything like this.
We are on the verge of Civil War. Make no mistake.

Sadly, I think you’re right. And there is no right side. It’s sad. There’s a reason authors are writing all these novels about fallen nations and new civilizations. That’s where we’re heading. And we can only hope that the outcome is better than what we are currently living in.
