Located in Charlestown, Rhode Island is a quaint coffeeshop in a historic building just off of Old Post Road.
With outside seating and a historic feel inside, Dave’s Coffee offers a sweet treat and relaxed vibe for anyone in the area. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to sit and work on a rainy day, or are looking for a new regular coffee spot, look no further.
Dave’s has been a Rhode Island gem for the past 16 years. They have locations in Providence and Charlestown and roast their own coffee at their roastery in Narraganset.
This dreary Sunday morning, my sister and I arrived around 8am (my goal was to beat the morning rush). We each got large, iced coffees with caramel syrup. They were amazing! Even though it was pretty early, we decided to split a salted chocolate chip cookie (it was huge and definitely counts as breakfast). I will admit, I was also eyeing a cinnamon roll. They also had breakfast sandwiches, muffins (including carrot cake), scones, and donuts as well as an assortment of drinks including tea, lattes, cold brew, hot coffee, and lemonade.

For added ease, they also have mobile ordering!
There was constant traffic while we sat at the table beside an old fireplace. It was a cozy location where families stopped in after church, another person worked from their computer, and friends chatted in the adjacent rooms. My sister, who never finishes a coffee, drank down her entire large, iced coffee and couldn’t stop raving about how great it was. I think Dave’s will become a monthly tradition for us.
As a history nerd, I fell in love with the charm of the old building. I spoke with the owner (David Lanning) about it and learned that it is an old farmhouse dating back to the 1740s. It was originally owned by the Stanton family (General Stanton) “who historically owned about 2,000 acres in the area.” Lanning spoke fondly of the building expressing that “it’s brimming with character and charm, and there are plenty of stories tied to its past.” (I have a feeling I’ll be going down a rabbit hole fairly soon to learn more about this beautiful building and the Stanton family).
Dave’s also happens to be in a wonderful location in Charlestown with an array of activities to do in the area including visiting the boutique, Galapagos, which is right next door! This boutique has been a neighborhood attraction for nearly 30 years! Below are other fun things to do locally:
- Ninigret Park is only 5 minutes away! (The trolls are waiting)
- Burlingame State Park is only 4 minutes away and is home to the 8-mile John Vincent Gormley Trail (leashed dogs are allowed)
- And don’t forget the beaches: Quonnie, Dune’s Park, Blue Shutters, and East.
- The Umbrella Factory is another 5 minute drive from Dave’s and is open year round. It’s a small village of unique stores with beautiful scenery throughout.
I recommend popping over to Dave’s this weekend for a delicious coffee and then going on an adventure with friends or family. You’ve earned it!
