Last month, I used Audible for the first time (after one of my close friends recommended it!). The first book I listened to…well the first book I chose to finish was “The Last Mrs. Parrish” by Liv Constantine. I listened while working, driving, doing dishes, cooking, and walking in the woods. (I must say it was better than listening to the same music over and over and over again, Spotify is getting a little too tired). The story had quite the plot twist, I didn’t see it coming at all! With that said, it definitely should have had a trigger warning. To be honest, it may have had one and I just overlooked it because I was so excited about diving in.

I had mixed feelings about the story but overall, I would rate it 4/5 stars. The POV change, from Amber to Daphne, was a bit jarring to me but was needed to work in those plot twists and to show the reader who Mr. Parrish really was. No one is as they seem and you don’t know what happens behind closed doors. Amber learns this the hard way. Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of this character, and I was slightly thrilled that Karma punished her. The characters were entertaining, and the twists and turns of the novel kept me wanting more.

Novel Breakdown: Amber Patterson is trying to climb in society. She’s tired of being a nobody. So she devises a plan to get herself a rich husband. She becomes best friends with his wife and is brought into the family, she’s welcomed on holidays and even starts working for him at the prodding of his wife. Eventually she starts sewing doubt into their marriage and believes she is getting exactly what she wants. She believes she will be welcomed into high class society and will leave a dream life. Little does she know, the marriage between Mr. and Mrs. Parrish isn’t what it appears. She gets what she wants but doesn’t realize that she has taken Daphne’s place in the nightmare her husband created.
