Happily working on a Lawton map that I’ll update with each installment to the serial. The first map will be posted tomorrow or Saturday.

Let’s talk about Jacob Cohen, our ill farmer.

Jacob Cohen was an upstanding member of Lawton. He routinely went to church and could often be found donating food to the needy. His family helped found the town and many Cohen’s can be found in the town hall register as well as in the cemetery close by. Originally, the Cohen Farm was meant to go to his older brother Lester, but strangely the man died in his sleep a few months after the passing of their father. From here, it landed in the hands of Jacob and stayed there until his death at which point it transferred to George Brown and his daughter Lillian (more information on these two in “Lawton Tales”).

Jacob Cohen married Maria Lancaster, a girl ten years younger and the daughter of a banker. Together they had five daughters and one son before she too passed leaving him a single father. (Children: Cederic, Lisa, Lillian, Lauren, Lacie, Melissa, Grace).
