Recently, I have been absorbed in my writing. I am working on a few different projects and that would be why I have been MIA from my blog for the past few days. I’m working on revising my first draft of Kings of Millburrow, which should be done within the next two weeks with any luck, as well as writing for my Channillo serial (Freefall), and also continuing with poetry. During this time I have noticed a few things about the art of writing– specifically new things about working with characters.
Characters during revising: When you go back and revise a novel you have all knowledge of your characters. You know how they will act in certain situations and can therefor change how they act during scenes. After writing a novel it is easier to go through in the revising process and notice a change, a growth or a fall back in your character’s morals and maturity.
First draft writing: You are just getting to know your characters, they have not yet annoyed you and made you question why you made them the way that they are. Working with them is similar to the “honeymoon phase” of a relationship. You’re still getting to know them and everything about them seems just so wonderful.
Just wait. Their downfalls are coming!
I hope all of you are still writing and reading!
Time to get back to my characters and their problems.
