Excuse Society

Asked for it,
Attention seeker-
Too short
Too weak
Too little
Too woman.

Hello everyone! Today’s post is going to be a little bit of poetry and a little bit of truth. The truth hurts, I think we can all agree on that. What if its a truth that we can change though? That we can improve if we take the time to LISTEN and SPEAK and COMMUNICATE.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Yes, this is a big deal. In our society today it is swept under a rug. It is ignored and disregarded by most schools. It is the ugly monster that no one wants to look at or discuss. The Boogey Man. And the result of this? Victim shaming. Silence. Continuation of a gross cycle. By blaming the person affected (whether it is a woman or a man) you are encouraging the events to continue. You are involved. By sitting back and watching, by encouraging, you become part of the problem.

Look at society. Look at the world we live in. An individual’s appearance should not be blamed for the actions of another individual. Victims become scapegoats. Monsters continue their life in the light. Lies spread. Justice dies. Is this a world you want to raise a family in? Is this a world you, yourself are proud to be a part of?

Statistics:
1) every 98 seconds in America someone is sexually assaulted– every 8 minutes it is a child (usually between the ages of 12-17: 66%).
2) 6 out of every 1,000 perpetrators are imprisoned
3) 1 out of every 6 women in America has been the victim of an attempted/completed rape, while for men the percentage is 1 out of every 33.
4) 55% of these cases occur at or near the individual’s home.
