“You’ll make a good wife some day”– said after preparing a customer’s food.
I’m not thinking that far ahead.

“You’re too pretty to be working here, you could work anywhere.”– said during a morning rush.
I’d rather use my brain.

“God. You’re in trouble when you’re older being that pretty.”– said while preparing for the day’s customers.
What does that even mean?

“It’s a compliment you’re supposed to say thank you.”– said in response to my confused expression, my shake of the head, my eye roll, my sarcastic “yeah okay”.

She hears.

Welcome to the world of working in the public. Enjoy your stay. Remember when they say “smile” to crack a grin. When they walk in you say “good morning” before they open their mouths. They make a joke you laugh too loud. You memorize their order. Ask about the kids.

Remember to smile. Remember to forget.
